Don't spend your precious time asking 'Why isn't the world a better place?' The question to ask is 'How can I make it better?' To that there is an answer. Leo F. Buscaglia.
wisdom of
warriors
Wisdom of Warriors aims to validate, recognize and value the wisdom gained through each individual’s mental health discovery journey. By employing the artist within, Wisdom of Warriors allows for our creativity to shine, while imparting knowledge learned through lived experience. As we share and exchange our stories, connection blooms, resulting in a feeling of community and a reminder that we are not alone. Wisdom of Warriors engages our creativity, exploring music, singing, songwriting, movement, drama, poetry and visual arts as a means to support these connections while celebrating the Wisdom of the Warrior. Participants will be guided through a 10-week workshop series, in which each creative modality will have the opportunity to be explored and expressed. Working alongside the facilitator, allowing for reciprocity and mutuality, we will ignite imaginations and our innate artist, while giving a voice and lens to each individual’s journey.

creativity

M A N Z is excited to be offering workshops for those who may be looking for learning in exploring and further developing their skills to facilitate creative activities. Amanda and the team have over 20 years experience in planning and implementing creative activity programs, having worked with children, adolescents and adults in both educational settings and mental health services. We also bring a lived experience perspective. As part of the workshop, a team member will guide participants in how to plan, facilitate and evaluate activities and provide professional development in accessing one's own creativity, allowing you to provide individual and group sessions for people. Practical and theoretical approaches in all modalities will be explored including singing, music, song writing, poetry, dance, drama, visual arts and craft. Creativity workshops can be facilitated within organisations, health services, educational settings or events.

lived experience

M A N Z advocates for the purposeful sharing of mental health lived experience warrior stories. We recognise that in sharing we give hope to others, normalise mental 'illness' and practice connection. Team members who deliver these workshops are either peer support workers, peer educators or have an interest and belief in the sharing of lived experience. We are mindful of safety for facilitators and participants so it is of high priority to us that we ensure the use of purposeful story telling and group agreements. Lived Experience workshops can be facilitated within organisations, health services, educational settings or events.

being trauma informed

M A N Z is committed to bringing awareness to the causal relationship between trauma and mental 'illness'. Evidence indicates that 90% of people who have experienced mental distress have survived through trauma and yet many accessible mental health supports still adhere to diagnostic treatments and a persistently re-traumatising medical model. Since trauma largely affects people's ability to trust, capacity to make sense of their environment and therefor feeling safe and in control, M A N Z offers a lived experience perspective which promotes the utilisation of connection and relationship in the treatment of mental 'illness'. This requires mental health clinicians to be able to access their humanity, vulnerability and patience, so as to form true connections and relationships. We are all human trying to figure out this thing they call 'life'...together. Let's aim for mutuality and reciprocity rather than 'expert' and 'patient'. This workshop aims to work along side participants to explore how we can continue to cultivate and foster trauma informed mental health supports and extend these understandings throughout our society and culture. Stigma is not helpful for recovery so if we can shift from thoughts of 'what is wrong with you?' towards 'what have you been through?' much progress, empathy and connection is generated. Facilitated by people with a lived experience, we hope to stimulate your heart, mind and imagination with regards to possibilities for the future of how we may treat as well as prevent trauma. Being Trauma Informed workshops can be facilitated within organisations, health services, educational settings or events.
